HELP MAKE THE NEXT ALBUM POSSIBLE
2006 was a great year for DulceSky, we released our long-planned debut "Lands" to rave reviews (Including a Top in Jack Rabid's prestigious Top 40 picks - Big Take Over Magazine) and great charting in the college radio circuit. However, despite the band's efforts with planning the record, it fell short of exploding to its full potential of exposure due to a limited budget.Given the state of the ever changing record industry and the fragile economy, as a band, we have decided to implement a plan that will give fans and other interested parties an opportunity to be a part of the album's success. Rather than raising money with nothing in return to support our upcoming release "Invisible Empire", DulceSky is offering fans and other interested parties an opportunity to invest in a stock program that would energize the production and promotion of the album.

2008 marked the 10th Anniversary since DulceSky started as a living room 4-track demo project. A few members have come and gone, but between 2002 and 2003 the foundation of the band was solidified when Vocalist/guitarist Oliver Valenzuela was joined by his brother Daniel on bass and Mitchell Razon on Drums. Those were also the years when recording and writing took full force and were moved to real studios after a deal DulceSky signed with Eden’s Watchtower Records. The current line-up has been rounded out by the addition of Brett Kocherhans on Guitar and Keyboards, which has widened the band’s writing horizons.
“Loose Tracks” captures the progress, the experimentation and the options, from shy demos to fully formed songs, re-visiting songs that didn’t make the cut to tunes that never fit on the various official DulceSky releases.
This release anticipates not to be a one-off volume, but hopefully the beginning of many compilations that would dare to even go back again and dig into those forgotten archives of the late 90’s and early 00’s along with newer songs and versions that don’t make the cut of subsequent releases.
Open your ears, mind and enjoy!

RECORDING THE NEXT ALBUM
As we prepare to release "Loose Tracks", we are also submerging ourselves in the recording of our second full-lenght, which will be entitled "Invisible Empire". We are in Counterpoint Studio this week, with our engineer and producer of choice Matt Winegar, then we will go back to his studio for overdubs and extra tracking. For those interested in the geeky part of the recording and also the progress, we'll keep a blog with the studio entries, photos and video at http://invisiblerecordings.blogspot.com/
Please stay tuned for the announcement of new events, we hope to have a few live shows in between recording sessions. Also, the boxset is still on the works and we hope to have it available soon.

Always reluctant to play covers, DulceSky saw the opportunity to contribute to a Ride tribute album as the perfect time to re-align the band’s collective minds. “Unfamiliar,” a classic in its own right, was an easy choice. DulceSky struggled during practice to come up with a version they could feel proud of, initially imitating the original version, then slowing it down and changing a few dynamics before enlisting the help of technology.
It all started with a beat from a Groovebox sampler. The rest is better registered in the recording itself, a dance-y yet powerful version of “Unfamiliar,” keeping the original’s melancholic vocals and insistent bass line while adding an almost disco-sounding beat.
Buoyed by their cover’s success, and reluctant to shelve the song when the Ride compilation’s release stalled, DulceSky recorded three new songs that comprise the balance of the EP.
“Icon of Distress” is a politically charged slow burner with the band’s trademark textured guitars; “In Your Way” is an atmospheric ode to reconciliation; and the elegiac “Ana in a Dream” is a deeply personal and beautiful song featuring acoustic strumming and arpeggios (elements rarely heard in the DulceSky camp) on a bed of shimmering keyboards.
Fans of Lands will be excited by the confident songwriting and production on display in the Unfamiliar EP. Produced by the band and Matt Winegar (Primus, Tom Waits, The Church), the record is the next chapter in an evolving discography that sees Oliver Valenzuela, his brother Daniel, and Mitchell Razon expanding their sound and honing their craft.
The Unfamiliar EP is released on April 22 by DulceSky’s own Nueve Music label, with distribution assistance from Salt Lake City-based label EW Recs.
Tracklist:
01
Unfamiliar
02 Icon of Distress
03 In Your Way
04 Ana in a Dream
Unfamiliar EP is available at DulceSky.com, Tonevendor.com, and at Slowtrain.

PREFACE: I know that bands get into boring details of label dealings, unimportant studio recounts, etc. When I like a band I usually find all that stuff interesting, but I always wonder how many people really think that it is part of the whole deal you get from a band you like their music. I wanted to just give you the heads up with some of this boring stuff that we are up to.
LABEL STUFF: Even though we started our own label, Nueve Music, exclusively to release DulceSky stuff, we haven't really left Eden's Watchtower Records (or EWRecs), but we are going to team up with them from now on. We wanted to do things at are own pace, and EWRecs it's already pretty busy as it is, but they are still wonderful and we are proud to be counted among their numbers still.
STUDIO: I know we've been threaning people with all these different releases since 2007 (B-sides, Live CD) and really nothing has come out of these ideas. Let's just say they are on hold at the moment. But now we finally have something that's really going to be coming out soon and it will be the first release on Nueve Music.
Late 2006/Early 2007 we were suggested by Ride's manager himself we try to get on this RIDE tribute album. We then contacted the person in charge of the project and he gave us the green light to start recording the song "Unfamiliar" (out Ride's Today Forever EP). We started working on it, rehearsing and not getting anywhere, until we came up with something that really clicked. We went into the studio in May or so of last year with our producer/engineer of choice, Matt Winegar, we recorded it and were pretty happy with the results. The tribute album has been a little bit slower than we thought, after doing some talking, consulting, etc. we decided to release "Unfamiliar" on our own for the time being. If we are going to be let into the tribute later? I don't know, but the song sounds so wonderful in our opinion that's only collecting dust. So we decided to Release it in the for of an E.P. We went into the studio this week with Matt Winegar again to start recording 3 originals. The songs are: "Icon of Distress", "In Your Way" and "Ana in a Dream". We have been playing the first 2 live for a while now. I think we have one session's worth of a little bit of tracking and mixing, and then to master it and package it. We are hoping for an April/May release.
The recording sessions went pretty smooth for the most, given that Mitchell was very sick, he still managed to do some amazing drumming. Daniel nailed his parts really quick and we even brought Dannika in to do some backing vocals for "In Your Way". I still have my vocals to do, and a few little things before we do the final mix. I've had a lot of fun recording with Matt. I love when he gets into the songs and start to suggest arrangements or just play things in the keyboards to add. We both got the chills talking about how much we admire John Lennon, and just talking about The Beatles in general. Big fans we are, but he is definitively a bigger fan :)
That's pretty much it for now. There you go, I ran through the mundane details around our music, but know that it is a very important part of it, and I know that some of you care.
Until a new update and/or important news.
Be well,
Oliver.
We are actually very excited about this year, especially as we have so much new material that we hope to share with you soon, including new studio tracks, "Unfamiliar" (a Ride cover), some live tracks and re-mixes that are being worked on. We started the year on a good note as we were nominated by the City Weekly Slammy's for the "Best Ambient Rock Band" of 2007. Join us for the showcase this January 25, 2008 at Liquid Joe's. Also as part of the promotion of the Slammy awards themselves, we've been invited to perform live on Fox 13's Good Day Utah this Friday, January 04.
Regarding DulceSky.com, we are only half way there content-wise, so keep checking back as we add more interactivity and fun things to look at and to listen to. More soon...
