05/27/08 DULCESKY UPDATES MAY/JUNE '08 (Part I)

We have a great show coming up at the Velour in Provo, it's our Utah County Provo CD release party and if you are from the area we hope you can join us, we'll play with "Elemental" and "Coup de Grace". Very excited about that. Also, we wanted to announce that our music is being carried in the UK by Northern Records, whom graciously offered to carry "Unfamiliar". Thanks to everybody that has bought our CDs and gear, to the Dj's that have played our music (too many to mention on here) and to all the friends that have been in touch, we really enjoy the communication. Please continue to do so. More news coming on here soon.

04/22/08 DULCESKY'S UNFAMILIAR EP OFFICIALLY OUT TODAY!

BUY IT NOW!

Two years on from their debut album Lands, which found a spot in Jack Rabid’s (Big Take Over) top 40 and made a mark on college radio charts, DulceSky is back with the Unfamiliar EP, a four-song recording that includes a version of the Ride song “Unfamiliar” and three new compositions.

Always reluctant to play covers, DulceSky saw the opportunity to contribute to a Ride tribute album as the perfect time to re-align the band’s collective minds. “Unfamiliar,” a classic in its own right, was an easy choice. DulceSky struggled during practice to come up with a version they could feel proud of, initially imitating the original version, then slowing it down and changing a few dynamics before enlisting the help of technology.

It all started with a beat from a Groovebox sampler. The rest is better registered in the recording itself, a dance-y yet powerful version of “Unfamiliar,” keeping the original’s melancholic vocals and insistent bass line while adding an almost disco-sounding beat.

Buoyed by their cover’s success, and reluctant to shelve the song when the Ride compilation’s release stalled, DulceSky recorded three new songs that comprise the balance of the EP.

“Icon of Distress” is a politically charged slow burner with the band’s trademark textured guitars; “In Your Way” is an atmospheric ode to reconciliation; and the elegiac “Ana in a Dream” is a deeply personal and beautiful song featuring acoustic strumming and arpeggios (elements rarely heard in the DulceSky camp) on a bed of shimmering keyboards.

Fans of Lands will be excited by the confident songwriting and production on display in the Unfamiliar EP. Produced by the band and Matt Winegar (Primus, Tom Waits, The Church), the record is the next chapter in an evolving discography that sees Oliver Valenzuela, his brother Daniel, and Mitchell Razon expanding their sound and honing their craft.

The Unfamiliar EP is released on April 22 by DulceSky’s own Nueve Music label, with distribution assistance from Salt Lake City-based label EW Recs.

Tracklist:

01 Unfamiliar
02 Icon of Distress
03 In Your Way
04 Ana in a Dream

Unfamiliar EP is available at DulceSky.com, Tonevendor.com, and at Slowtrain.

03/25/08 Acoustic Show This Saturday

That's right, we'll be playing a "rare" acoustic performance this Saturday and it's FREE. See above for details. By early next week we should have compiled all the official details of our upcoming release: "Unfamiliar" EP. Please stay tuned for that and hopefully we'll see ya this weekend if you are around the area.

02/16/08 In the Studio / Band Update / Ride Cover

Greetings from DulceSky HQ: To start, we'll update you with a few things that were in the running like us being nominated by the City Weekly Slammy's for "Best Ambient Rock". We came in second to I Hear Sirens (pretty good band btw). Bummer, but not bad either. Thanks to all that voted for us.

PREFACE: I know that bands get into boring details of label dealings, unimportant studio recounts, etc. When I like a band I usually find all that stuff interesting, but I always wonder how many people really think that it is part of the whole deal you get from a band you like their music. I wanted to just give you the heads up with some of this boring stuff that we are up to.

LABEL STUFF: Even though we started our own label, Nueve Music, exclusively to release DulceSky stuff, we haven't really left Eden's Watchtower Records (or EWRecs), but we are going to team up with them from now on. We wanted to do things at are own pace, and EWRecs it's already pretty busy as it is, but they are still wonderful and we are proud to be counted among their numbers still.

STUDIO: I know we've been threaning people with all these different releases since 2007 (B-sides, Live CD) and really nothing has come out of these ideas. Let's just say they are on hold at the moment. But now we finally have something that's really going to be coming out soon and it will be the first release on Nueve Music.

Late 2006/Early 2007 we were suggested by Ride's manager himself we try to get on this RIDE tribute album. We then contacted the person in charge of the project and he gave us the green light to start recording the song "Unfamiliar" (out Ride's Today Forever EP). We started working on it, rehearsing and not getting anywhere, until we came up with something that really clicked. We went into the studio in May or so of last year with our producer/engineer of choice, Matt Winegar, we recorded it and were pretty happy with the results. The tribute album has been a little bit slower than we thought, after doing some talking, consulting, etc. we decided to release "Unfamiliar" on our own for the time being. If we are going to be let into the tribute later? I don't know, but the song sounds so wonderful in our opinion that's only collecting dust. So we decided to Release it in the for of an E.P. We went into the studio this week with Matt Winegar again to start recording 3 originals. The songs are: "Icon of Distress", "In Your Way" and "Ana in a Dream". We have been playing the first 2 live for a while now. I think we have one session's worth of a little bit of tracking and mixing, and then to master it and package it. We are hoping for an April/May release.

The recording sessions went pretty smooth for the most, given that Mitchell was very sick, he still managed to do some amazing drumming. Daniel nailed his parts really quick and we even brought Dannika in to do some backing vocals for "In Your Way". I still have my vocals to do, and a few little things before we do the final mix. I've had a lot of fun recording with Matt. I love when he gets into the songs and start to suggest arrangements or just play things in the keyboards to add. We both got the chills talking about how much we admire John Lennon, and just talking about The Beatles in general. Big fans we are, but he is definitively a bigger fan :)

That's pretty much it for now. There you go, I ran through the mundane details around our music, but know that it is a very important part of it, and I know that some of you care.

Until a new update and/or important news.

Be well,

Oliver.

01/03/08 2008 UPDATE

So here we are, just like many bands and artists writing our year's end/beginning of the year update, while trying to get some to at least notice and read.

We are actually very excited about this year, especially as we have so much new material that we hope to share with you soon, including new studio tracks, "Unfamiliar" (a Ride cover), some live tracks and re-mixes that are being worked on. We started the year on a good note as we were nominated by the City Weekly Slammy's for the "Best Ambient Rock Band" of 2007. Join us for the showcase this January 25, 2008 at Liquid Joe's. Also as part of the promotion of the Slammy awards themselves, we've been invited to perform live on Fox 13's Good Day Utah this Friday, January 04.

Regarding DulceSky.com, we are only half way there content-wise, so keep checking back as we add more interactivity and fun things to look at and to listen to. More soon...

12/26/07 DULCESKY NOMINATED FOR "BEST AMBIENT ROCK BAND" BY THE CITY WEEKLY.

11/06/07NOVEMBER IS HERE (UPDATE)

Thank you once again to all those that showed up for our Live Recording Show and to those that bought stuff from us, especially the new T-Shirts. Now it is to sort through the tracks. It is very possible that the release will be a few live tracks and some other surprises, but please bear with us as we figure out the details. Hopefully it will be out before the end of the year. We should be uploading some pictures and other things from the show. In the meantime we want to announce that our T-Shirts are finally on our online store!.

We'll add some of the old black t-shirts (black on black and silver on black) as well, and as the holidays get closer, some special deals for gift ideas, so please stay tuned and check us back often. One more thing, if you'd like to buy our tracks on MP3 format rather than the M4P versions of iTunes, go to our Myspace Page and buy them through the Snocap store (Pay Pal and Credit Cards accepted). That's it for now, until the next update.

10/02/07 LIVE RECORDING SHOW

We are pleased to announce our first "Live Recording Show" at The Circuit on October 18. Besides being our first live album project, we will perform new songs that haven't been released or even recorded yet, including a few we've already been playing around ("Spies of the System", "In Your Way"), and some never played live before ("Icon of Distress", "The Gathering Darkness"). If you are around the area, come and be part of it; if you live too far, we hope to have the album ready to be released before the end of November. In the meantime we will post pictures of the event and some of the live tracks will be showcased via a flash player we plan to add to this site.
Here are the details of the show:

DULCESKY LIVE RECORDING SHOW

W/ Special guests: Ex-Machina and Phono.

09/22/07 UPDATE FROM THE BAND

First of all, we would like to thank all the loyal friends of DulceSky that came to see us and stayed after the Gallivan show to say hi. We had a lot of fun and your presence made it so. We are working on setting up possibly the last show of the year (unless we play for New Years) in the Salt Lake area. We'll update you on that asap. We really appreaciate the fans outside of Utah that have been requesting our presence in their cities, we really try to get out this year, but logistics and many other factors made it really difficult. We hope to resume in the first half of next year, hopefully with a new release to take to you. Regardless, please stay tuned to DulceSky.com as we'll keep adding new features and fun things on here as often as possible. Check also our MySpace page and add as a friend if you haven't yet. A new report coming soon. Take care of yourselves.

09/13/07 DULCESKY TO HEADLINE EWR FESTIVAL AGAIN

DulceSky will headline Eden's Watchtower Records' "Music to Clean Your Ears Out" Festival (v5.0) once again. The festival will be held Saturday, September 15th at the Gallivan Center, Salt Lake City, and it will feature most of the label's active roaster, plus special non-label guests and other surprises. This year, the festival will also serve as a fund raiser for Spyhop, a community program designed to help the youth to develop skills in the arts of music, film and multimedia design. Click here to donate. For more details, go to the Festival's Site.

09/13/07 WELCOME TO THE NEW DULCESKY.COM

After scratching many design ideas, the new re-designed DulceSky.com is here. As usual, it is a work in progress and many new features will be added often, including a message board to leave your greetings or to discuss whatever DulceSky related topic. Be sure to subscribe to the mailing list to get the latest DulceSky news. Enjoy!
